Car prices found to be cheaper down south

Typically, cars have always been found to be cheaper up north, however this seems to be changing with more bargains being sought out in the capital.

Recent research has revealed that car buyers are more likely to pay a higher price for the same model in the northern region opposed to down south. After researching more than 14,000 vehicles to work out the average price of each model in each city, a surprising 58% were cheaper in the south.

On average a buyer would save £285 by opting to buy a car in London instead of Manchester, and save £81 if the car was bought in London instead of Glasgow. Cars in Scotland were the second-cheapest in the survey, with 26% of the best prices, while Manchester finished a distant third with only 16% of the lowest prices.

Though the prices were rarely dramatically different, both Audi and BMW models were consistently significantly cheaper in London

The biggest cash saving found was on an 07-plate Audi A4 Cabriolet 2.0 TDI. In London you’d pay an average of £14,931, but in Glasgow you’d have to shell out £17,560 – that’s 18% more! That means it would be cheaper to fly to London, buy an A4 and drive it home!

Thanks to a higher number of vehicles on offer and greater competition for sales down south, prices seem to reflect in favour of the buyer. However, before you compare and decide on the best prices, make sure you consider the expense and distance you are willing to travel for a bargain.
