What the parties promise UK drivers
With the election parties gaining momentum, we felt this would be an ideal opportunity to reveal exactly what the leading three parties are promising drivers in the UK.
It comes as no surprise that cheaper fuel came up trumps when UK drivers were polled about their most desirable motoring change. Though motorists continue to see an increase in fuel costs, only the Tories promised to review prices per litre as a ‘consultation’ exercise.
David Cameron said that he would compensate drivers with a reduction of up to 10p to cover rising oil costs. However, this would only be a temporary solution to a growing motorist concern.
Other leading factors that appeal to motorists around the country are environmental issues and road conditions, tax costs and the continuous expense of additional speed cameras
Below are the key points related to each party campaign;
Labour promises
- More hard shoulder running and motorway widening
- Ten-fold increase in penalties for overrunning roadworks
- 100,000 electric vehicle charging points by 2015
- No national road pricing in next Parliament
Conservative promises
- National electric car recharging network
- No more Government cash for speed cameras
- Introduction of a “drugalyser” alongside the breathalyser
- Consultation on Fair Fuel Stabiliser
Liberal democrats promises
- Revenue-neutral road pricing in place of road tax and fuel duty
- Cheaper fuel if you live in a remote area
- Zero-emissions new car target by 2040
- Reduce fraud clampers
Each party suggests that there will be consideration a minor aspects of UK driving, however, it seems that less consideration is giving to reducing the expense of drivers.
