Industry Scrappage Update
The scrappage scheme is proving a successful operation within the UK motor trade. Sales of new cars in Britain increased by more than 11% last month, providing fresh evidence of the industry's recovery from recession.
Designed to replace older cars with safer, more economically and environmentally friendly models, more people have been attracted by the incentive of upgrading their vehicle.
Last month there were 368,000 new car registrations, 11% more than the same month a year ago, with the majority purchased through the scrappage scheme option.
September is an important month for the car industry, with sales worth almost a fifth of the annual total. About 1.5 million new cars have been sold in the year to date, down by around 16% on the same period last year.
However, The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said the figures showed the third monthly increase in a row, after a rise of 6% in August and 2.4% in July.
The scrappage scheme has underpinned the necessity for survival during challenging market conditions. The extension of the scheme will help to sustain demand through the latter part of this year and into 2010
Audi is participating in the Government Scrappage Scheme offering customers’ considerable savings on a new car. These offers are available on all Audi models and are in addition to our current offers. If you own a vehicle that’s over 10 years old and you have owned it for more than a year you may be entitled to a finance offer under this scheme.
